Job Description

SCBIO Corporate Affairs Intern Reports to:  Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations Manager directly / COO and President & CEO indirectly Type of Position:  Part-Time (~10 hrs./week)   Location: Remote (in South Carolina) Note:  In a normal operating environment, SCBIO Interns must be willing and able to travel to certain strategic team meetings (Greenville) and SCBIO events/meetings related to their work (throughout SC).  Travel/in-person meetings have been necessarily significantly reduced in the midst of the COVID pandemic with the vast majority of SCBIO work being conducted remotely and virtually.  A more normal schedule will resume in the future as conditions warrant, with the health & safety of all SCBIO employees, interns, and collaborators being the top priority.   Compensation: Junior BA Intern: $12/hr Senior BA Intern: $14/hr Note: Interns are considered “Junior BA Interns” until completing their first term of employment (~6 months or 1 semester).  After completing the initial internship term, SCBIO has the option to conclude the internship or offer a promotion to “Senior BA Intern” for additional terms. Time not included on specific work assignments will be considered non-compensated shadowing/education experience   Start Date: Spring 2021 Term End Date: December 2021     Job Summary: The SCBIO Intern will assist in a variety of administrative roles, including but not limited to: investor relations, stakeholder development, corporate communications, workforce/talent initiatives, social media marketing, and other various business administrative functions in coordination with the Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations Manager and the rest of the SCBIO team. The SCBIO Intern will learn about and engage with a multitude of life sciences companies and related issues and initiatives in South Carolina. The SCBIO Intern will also support any other appropriate and designated initiatives and strategies needed to further the core mission areas of SCBIO.    Additionally:  ·       This work requires only minor physical exertion and/or strain. The work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements ·       Work is often fast-paced, stressful, and requires managing multiple projects with deadlines ·       A willingness to work flexible hours is necessary ·       In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is possible that requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate disabled individuals.   • Provide a high level of service to foster strong relationships with current members/investors, future members/investors, and various industry and public/private partners
  • Directly support and help manage the member database in alignment with and under the guidance of the Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations Manager, including the essential role of overseeing data entry, imports and exports, cleanup, and tracking
  • Aid the Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations Manager in compiling, analyzing and providing reports on membership composition and trends with EVP support
  • Assist in producing high-quality fundraising materials to meet goals and deadlines
  • Support coordinating in-person and virtual events
  • Create compelling content for digital marketing and initiatives
  • Help prepare corporate presentations in various forms and formats, ranging from PowerPoint to printed documents and memorandums
  • Assist members and potential members as needed
  • Other duties as may be routinely assigned by SCBIO team


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in a relevant STEM field (engineering, science, etc.) or Business field (marketing, finance, management, etc.).
  • A genuine passion for life sciences coupled with interest in a potential career in the life sciences industry
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • A natural desire for relationship management, getting to know people, and effectively communicating with them in a positive and meaningful manner – including the ability to deal professionally and always tactfully with a wide variety of personalities and positions in correspondence, on the telephone, and in person
  • A high level of individual initiative and creativity
  • Attention to detail, high standards, and a passion for accuracy, especially typically error-free data entry and writing
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • The ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
  • The ability to rapidly learn and use new software and technology tools
