The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) Diagnostic Laboratory has an immediate opening for a full-time Molecular Laboratory Technologist with an emphasis on biotechnology. The position will be located in the Greenwood GGC Diagnostic Laboratory and will work with a team of Molecular Directors and PhD faculty, laboratory technologists and support personnel.
Using standard molecular techniques such as PCR, Sanger or Pyrosequencing, restriction enzyme digestion, fragment analysis, Southern blotting, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA), and Next Generation Sequencing (DNA/RNA) to analyze clinical diagnostic samples that are submitted for laboratory analysis.
The technologist will follow standard operating procedures for sample handling, sample processing, test analyses, and recording of test results, and will adhere to the quality control policies of the laboratory.
When appropriate, the technologist may be responsible for training of other technologists/fellows/students, and participate in the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Additional roles may include management and development of the Laboratory Information Management System and other software tools used by the laboratory.
Familiarity with relational database systems (i.e., Microsoft Access, MySQL) and programming logic is highly recommended.
Responsibilities may include troubleshooting and debugging issues within the system and working with end users to improve the interface.
The Molecular Technologist will report to the Molecular Supervisor and Molecular Lab Director(s).
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in science or related field preferably with an emphasis on biotechnology are encouraged to apply.
